If the motor cranks when you jump it there are a couple of things that it could be, a bad 20 amp fuse, starter solenoid, ignition switch, safety neutral switch, or bad wiring. (I'm assumming the control box is in neutral). The 20 amp fuse is on the motor in a red wire coming off the solenoid. (I would check the fuse first).

Re: 1992 Evinrude 88 SPL stalls I've seen the black bits of rubber in carbs, usually on much older engines. The ethanol breaks the hose down and the bits lodge in the small orfices/passages of the carbs on engines up to very early 80's or so. Your engine should have ethanol-resistant fuel lines-so I am somewhat suprised.

Mar 11, 2007 · I've got a 1995 Evinrude 88 SPL, and I am getting about 120psi on all 4 cylinders. You can have as low as 80-90PSI, the key is that all 4 are withing 10% of each other. Hose pressure is forcing water up through the engine, not the water pump.
