Dec 4, 2011 · Maxx emergency hatch release. My first time in this forum, and largely because of a puzzling question I have about my 04 Malibu Maxx. Once in a while, the rear hatch refuses to open, regardless of whether I use the fob, the button on the driver's door or the touchpad on the hatch itself. I'll hear a click or two but the hatch won't pop open. The only problem with it is that the driver buttons for the mirrors, doors and trunk open all dont work. I did some looking and saw it could be the fuses but i have checked at least the mirrors fuse and it appears to be fine, i even switched another fuse and it still did not work. It is spring loaded when it closes, but will not release unless you pull the release cable. It would be very difficult to get the seat out far enough to reach the release cable. my Chevrolet Malibu 2015 trunk release is malfunctioning.
