I also have an AC556 & a Mini-14. It been common knowledge since first quarter of 2010, that Ruger has run out of parts for the AC556. In fact they also have run out of parts for my 20 year old Mini-14. Most manufactures do not keep parts around for ever and that includes Ruger. So what I did is find a de-milled Post sample AC556.

Ruger is just about out of all AC556 parts. They have been out of Folding stocks for 3 years. If you send your 13" AC556 in for a barrel replacement, it may be returned with a 18" barrel. Standard threads give you more options for muzzle attachments and suppressors. I personally wouldnt rethread a AC556 and/or run it suppressed.
