I'm pretty sure there's nothing in the cats passives to make any weapons more preferable. Dog - explosives and big guns, the other cat - "sniper" class weapons, bird - shotguns (but only "technically" really because they are close range weapons). Cat has nothing for guns which is not a bad thing at all whatsoever.

Not sure about Endless Assault. It's usually ass on Tao, but without a weapon it might be worth it to pick up. A better alternative is to hope for Capacity Overdraft and get a point in Sword Guard to sustain the damage taken. Honestly, if you want to do damage with swords, just get Field Proficiency and bind it to LMB or scroll wheel or something.

I haven't really found anything that would work well in anything > nightmare. For example, here are a few things I noticed that work (but have massive cons); Close range build using shotguns/rockets.
